Joel Spira, founder of Lutron and the first to explore and patent light dimmers in home automation, died of natural causes yesterday morning at the age of 88.
Back in 1959, Mr. Spira was determined to figure out how to dim the lights in is home, he was able to find a solutions and launched the dimmer through Lutron, which was founded in 1961. After figuring out that these dimmers not only saved time, created a perfect ambiance and saved energy, Mr. Spira first invention set off the most appealing lighting controls system of all time, even in preset day.
Today, Lutron hold over 2,700 worldwide patents. Over 50 years of innovations, Lutron has invented hundreds of lighting control devices and systems. Lighting isn’t their only specially; Lutron saves energy with motorized shades as well.
