Sparklight Internet Outage

The recent Sparklight Internet Outage and why a Starlink Reliable Internet Failover Matters More Than Ever

Sparklight Internet Outage

Yesterday, a Hargray / Sparklight Internet Outage was created by a surge-related event that took down power to a significant portion of their infrastructure. While their service technically remained “online,” the network was so degraded that performance slowed to a crawl. Making it all but useless.

This created a unique challenge: because Hargray was still technically reachable, your routers didn’t automatically switch over to your Starlink backup as they should have. In lames terms, the Starlink backup did not roll over during the Sparklight Internet Outage as it should have when it still saw a worthless incoming stream. In this case, the only way to restore reliable connectivity was to physically disconnect the Hargray signal, forcing the router to fail over to Starlink. Thankfully, with the help of some of our clients we were able to make this happen.

This incident was more than a minor technical hiccup—it exposed just how deeply modern life depends on a stable internet connection. It’s not just about browsing or streaming anymore. When there’s a Sparklight Internet Outage the network goes down:

  • Wi-Fi calling stops working

  • Smart thermostats and security systems become unreachable

  • Streaming and cloud-based services go offline

  • Gas stations can’t sell gas because they can’t process credit card payments

  • ATMs won’t dispense cash to buy the gas because they rely on the same network

We no longer have traditional copper landlines as a fallback. Without connectivity, we’re effectively isolated—cut off from communication, commerce, and even emergency response. It’s a vulnerability many don’t recognize until it’s too late.

That’s why at AIC, we’re working on smarter, more resilient solutions. New firmware updates are on the horizon for our routers, which will allow more precise failover controls—even in cases where the primary network is technically “up” but functionally unusable.

Our goal is to make sure your backup connection—especially through Starlink—isn’t just a safety net, but a seamless continuation of service when your primary provider falters.

We’ll continue monitoring, improving, and innovating to ensure that even when the unexpected happens, you stay connected.

Starlink: Fast Internet, Wherever You Are

Tired of slow or spotty internet in rural or remote areas? Starlink might be just what you need. Built by SpaceX, Starlink uses satellites in low Earth orbit to bring high-speed internet almost anywhere — even places regular providers don’t reach.

It’s great for streaming, working from home, video calls, gaming, or just browsing without the frustration of buffering or dropouts.

Easy Setup, No Fuss

Getting started is super simple; and with plans starting as low as $50.00 a month, it’s a no brainer. Once you order, Starlink ships you a kit with everything you need: the satellite dish (aka “Dishy”), a mount, cables, and a Wi-Fi router. Use the Starlink app to find the best spot with a clear view of the sky, set it up, plug it in — and you’re online in minutes. No waiting on a tech to show up. Sign up here.

If you’ve been stuck with slow DSL, pricey satellite plans, or no internet at all, Starlink could be a game-changer. Fast, reliable internet — finally.
