If your smart thermostat or smart smoke detectors don’t talk to a centralized hub, its a bit of a discrepancy. All should be well now! “Works with Nest” program has just expanded to support the whole home automation gear from Universal Remote Control (URC). If you’re fortunate enough to have one of these home control systems, you can now integrate Nest home automation equipment with home theaters, lighting control, and anything else that talks to one of the supported control hubs.
Nest is tying into Google’s other big household technology acquisition, Dropcam.
It’s internet-savy security cameras can now react to whatever your Nest equipment is doing. If your thermostat says your away, Dropcam can turn on motion sensing. Also, the smoke detector communicates with Dropcam to record a real video for proof of a real fire.
