We get this question all the time; does Sonos offer an outdoor speaker? Unfortunately, no. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your favorite wireless music system outdoors.
One easy solution is simply bringing a PLAY:1 speaker outside with you. Just don’t forget to bring it back indoors when you’re finished. Sonos speakers are not weatherproof. You’ll also need an outlet to plug the speaker into. This can be a pain because it’s often difficult trying to find an outlet on exterior walls. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that Sonos speakers are not acoustically designed for the outdoors. The best thing about Sonos is music quality. If you do decide to bring the speaker in and out, sound quality may diminish.
The best way to enjoy your Sonos system outdoors is pairing up with a great outdoor speaker, like Rockustics or a Niles Planter box speaker, and a Sonos CONNECT:AMP. By connecting to a permanently installed patio or poolside speaker, you’ll get great sound quality without having to bring out your wireless speaker each time you want to use it.
For now, until Sonos comes out with an outdoor speaker, these are your best options. If you’re considering outdoor speakers, give Advanced Integrated Controls (AIC) a call. We’ll set up a complimentary consultation. Like always, we’ll keep you connected to the world!
