Look, it’s really not that bad considering what they’re about to offer their users.
With 4K televisions on the rise, Netflix plans to capitalize on the 4K market. The plan is to help those with Ultra 4K TVs who struggle to find true 4K video content. Just like the up charge to get blu-rays in the mail over DVDs, Netflix is implementing a higher price for 4K streaming too. Right now, Netflix is the only online streaming service to offer 4K content. However, Amazon Prime Instant Video is following closely behind.
It’ll cost you $4 more, from the basic $7.99 to $11.99 a month which includes the ability to stream to 4 devices simultaneously. In order to stream 4K, you have to have a steady Internet connection speed of 25Mbps or higher. Streaming quality will need to be set to “High”. Meaning you’ll be getting 3GB per hour for HD and 7GB per hour for Ultra HD.
Which TV Brands are 4k?
At the moment, Netflix Ultra HD 4K streaming is only available on LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio, and recently added, Panasonic 4K televisions.
Which Netflix Videos are 4k?
Currently, Netflix’s 4K video choices are limited, but they expect the offerings to increase tremendously beginning 2015. Right now Netflix offers 4K titles like House of Cards series 2, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, and the Smurfs 2. Breaking Bad and the Blacklist will be coming in 4K soon. The company overall is targeting 2015 to have a host of additional UltraHD content available.
This could have something to do with Netflix’s announcement into original film production and distribution. And I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty stoked! The first plan is to release the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, simultaneously to Netflix and IMAX on August 28, 2015. This is to be the first time a sole streaming service would be the exclusive home for a first run movie co-released in theaters. Their second plan is to partner with Adam Sandler. His Happy Madison Productions will feature four films that would be released directly to Netflix. Even more, Adam Sandler will actually be starring in these moves!
What is Neflix’s New Price Structure?
That $4 increase doesn’t look so bad after all, does it? Oh, and those who already subscribed to Netflix at the $7.99 level, will continue to get access to Netflix’s 4K titles for two more years.
