Sonos 5.4 Update Changes

Sonos is updating their software and there are a few Sonos controllers the update will no longer support:

  • CR200/CONTROL
  • Android 2.1
  • MAC OS X 10.6.8

Sonos says, “this summer, some controllers will no longer have the ability to set up a new Sonos system, add new players to your existing Sonos system nor manage music services. The controllers affected will still be able to control your system as it does today to search, play music and group or ungroup rooms. We are working to keep your existing app functional for as long as possible, but the Sonos app will no longer be available for download for this Android or OS X version.”
What does Sonos suggest? You’ll have to update your Android or MAC to the newest software. Any remaining devices using Android 2.1 or OS X 10.6.8 “will no longer be able to enjoy future refinements and new features we bring to your Sonos system”, says Sonos.
These changes are expected to take effect in their next software release this summer. We’ll be sure to let you know when the software will be updated. Furthermore, Sonos will be beefing up the PLAY:1 as well.
