4K on the May

Project Summary

This breathtaking May River property embodies a custom low country-style home like no other. This 6500 square foot home is packed with raised living areas, open floor plan, tall ceilings, and surrounded with wrap-around porches. The primary focus was to design an easy to use everyday smart home system. Utilized by various guests and friends on a regular basis. The homeowner desired televisions in multiple locations throughout the home, an extensive whole house audio system, and most importantly, an independent stand-alone theater system.

Theater Components

  • Sony VPLW285ES 4K SXRD Projector with High Dynamic Range
  • 100” Dragonfly 4k Optimized Fixed 16:9 Ultra White Projection Screen
  • Sony STRZA3100ES receiver for Dolby 7.1.2 Atmos Surround Sound
  • Sunfire Ribbon Series Speakers
  • Sunfire dedicated audio amplifiers
  • (6) Custom theater chairs installed and incorporated into risers
  • Lutron Lighting and Lutron Shades Automation

The theater is the only room located on the third floor to create a secluded, yet inviting movie environment. The theater includes all the luxuries a real theater embodies, like raised theater seating, custom lighting, a wet bar area, and hidden speakers.

Project Scope

Because this project opened our minds to explore our creativity in order to deliver the perfect media room. So the homeowner’s wanted a state of the art theater room without the presence of bulky speakers or subwoofers. We worked closely with the architect and builder. To create a custom theater wall that concealed our front and center Sunfire Ribbon speakers. And recessed the screen into the cabinet opening. The ribbon speakers were seamlessly integrated with the Niles in-ceiling speakers creating the ultimate Dolby Atmos sound everyone desires when watching movies. The sound quality is unparalleled in comparison to simple home theater installs.

The system designed was completely independent from the house system. In fact, this theater system has lighting control that the other remaining living areas of the home do not.

To add to the ambience of the theater, AIC installed (4) Lutron Sivoia QS Triathlon Shades to assist with lighting demands. Our team wanted to create the ultimate theater experience for any time of day. Lutron Engraved Backlit keypads installed to create various custom lighting scenes. The lights automatically dim and the shades lower for “Movie Time.”

Customer Needs

Our homeowner’s primary focus was to incorporate a 4K HD home theater projection system within his custom smart home without breaking the bank.  By incorporating the theater into the Elan g! system, the homeowner can control all aspects of audio and video in any room of the home. The (6) electric Row One custom seats with light-up cup holders. Installed into two rows of three on an elevated platform for optimal sound and viewing quality. The (4) Lutron Sivioia Triathlon Shades were essentially black out shades in order to block out any light when the theater was in use.

The homeowner specified that they desired a simple and easy to use system. To keep the system super accessible, AIC installed a Bluebolt power management system that allows the system to be remotely monitored and rebooted if any device is not operating properly. This feature eliminates all concerns regarding troubleshooting and gives the homeowner security knowing we can log into the system if there are any issues.

This 3rd floor secluded system provides the homeowner a getaway without ever leaving the home. The homeowner simply pushes one button and this intuitive room does the rest; lights & window shades are lowered, and the system comes to life. Lights, Camera, Action.
